Social Media and its Role in Maintaining Community Security: A Field Study on Media Prominent Professionals in the Kingdom of Bahrain

Abstract
The study seeks to define the most important security challenges and problems related to social media. It indicates ways of confronting them to achieve security for individuals and societies. The role of social media in security awareness and education is also highlighted in this study.
The study is based on the survey approach. The study sample includes 250 prominent professionals working in different media fields in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The study finds that most members of the study sample (81%) in the Kingdom of Bahrain see that some social media content badly affects the security situation in the country.
The study offers some recommendations as follows:
The ministries, official media institutions, and concerned civil society organizations should adopt media campaigns for promoting awareness to achieve the optimal usage of social media. Accordingly, we can gain more positive effects and reduce other negative ones.
Laws should be enacted for filling the legislative gap pertinent to blogging through social media networks. Subsequently, social safety and stability can be ensured.
