Abstract

This study seeks to identify the reality and expectation of mechanisms of community-oriented policing in order to reduce crime in Palestine according to police officers’ viewpoints. It shows the differences between reality and expectations in the light of different variables: military ranks, academic qualifications, and the type of duties assigned to police officers. To achieve the study’s objective, the study sample includes (132) officers, and its tool is a questionnaire with (40) paragraphs divided into three fields of mechanisms: administrative, social, and cultural & media.

The study shows that reality is much less than expectation. There are no differences with a statistical significance according to the independent variables. Moreover, there are differences for expected results related to academic qualifications in favor of the higher qualifications, and related to work type in favor of administrative work. The differences for the expected results have no statistical significance according to the military rank variable.
