Abstract

This study examines international standards and considerations for designing rehabilitation institutions, contextualized within the local experience. Its objective is to align these standards with the religious, cultural, and social values of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia while ensuring the security environment of the prison and enhancing the efficiency of the rehabilitation process. The study focuses on reformatory inmates in Riyadh, employing a descriptive analytical method and utilizing questionnaires for data collection. The sample consists of 120 randomly selected inmates. Statistical analysis, including percentages, frequencies, arithmetic means, and standard deviations, is used to characterize the primary data and address the study’s questions.
The study concludes by proposing an updated list of standards and design considerations crucial for meeting the rehabilitation needs of inmates. It emphasizes the importance of architectural programming, the design quality of reform buildings, and the adaptation of global models to align with Saudi culture and society.
