Abstract

This study addresses the field of forensic linguistics and its role in investigations and crime detection. It is an applied analytical study that aims to explore the expanded roles of forensic linguistics in the judicial field.
The research problem lies in the limited presence of literature employing this science in Arab criminal investigations, where its use is often confined to various forms of identity analysis, with little attention is given to its other functions.
The study adopts a narrative-analytical approach in examining the famous Derek Bentley case in the United Kingdom (case study).
The findings reveal that forensic linguistics has expanded complementary roles that go beyond merely identifying the author of a text, extending to uncovering implicit intentions and evaluating the structure of arguments—contributing to the pursuit of justice. The study also concludes with the following recommendations: enhancing the participation of forensic linguistics experts in various stages of investigations, and developing training programs for judges, prosecutors, and investigative officers.
