Abstract

The study seeks to define the DACUM approach that is used for identifying security training needs. It focuses on DACUM bases, contents, and procedures, and tries to ascertain the most important opportunities and challenges resulting from the DACUM approach. The approaches commonly used in many Arab countries cannot identify security training needs or achieve their objectives. Accordingly, the effectiveness of security training has been negatively impacted, particularly after methods of crime perpetration have become advanced and after the appearance of new and previously unknown crimes. In its introductory section, the study tries to define the concept of training in general and the concept of security training in particular. It shows the objectives and important role of security training. Subsequently, the study highlights the concept of training needs and indicates how identification of such needs is essential. The most important approaches employed for identifying training needs and the reality of such needs are also demonstrated.

The study highlights the following points: Using the DACUM approach for preparing security training curricula offers many opportunities such as preparation of description and classification cards for security jobs, design of training programs, and raising morale and self-appreciation for employees working in security fields. Using the DACUM approach for identifying security training needs faces many challenges such as the following: findings are hasty, a lack of specialists, imitation and copying of imported forms, and an absence or lack of expert practitioners for some security jobs.
