Abstract
This article aims to discuss the effects of the novel Coronavirus on the economies of Arab countries, while focusing on the efficiency of the measures that have been adopted so far to contain the economic effects of the pandemic. Due to the new and specific nature of this crisis, the article depended on a comparison between the measures that can be adopted to handle this crisis and the measures usually adopted to face different economic crises, while taking into account the differences between this crisis and others in terms of causes, scope, depth, and length of time.
The article discussed policies and measures adopted so far to lessen the negative impact of this virus on Arab economies, and the channels through which this virus has affected the different economic sectors. It also evaluated the efficiency of such policies and measures. The article looked into the policies and measures expected to be pursued by Arab countries after the end of this virus in the medium and long term to boost Arab economies and deal with the social impacts caused by the crisis. The article looked at the specific nature of this crisis and the rising level of uncertainty surrounding it. It also compared between the Corona shock and the previous shocks that affected the world economy in general and Arab economies in specific.
