Abstract

The present study aims to identify the nature of the relationship between intellectual extremism and emotional regulation among a sample of students at Prince Sattam Bin Abdul Aziz University in Al-Kharj. It also aims to identify the differences in intellectual extremism and emotional regulation that are attributed to gender, academic level, and specialization variables. The study made use of the descriptive method; it was conducted on a sample of students from Prince Sattam University in Al-Kharj, consisting of (215), (83) male students and (132) female students on which the Intellectual Extremism scale (Hussein, 2019) and the Emotional Regulation scale (Salim, 2017) have been applied.

The results of the study concluded that the level of intellectual extremism among students of Prince Sattam bin Abdul Aziz University in Al-Kharj is medium. The level of emotional regulation among students of Prince Sattam bin Abdul Aziz University in Al-Kharj is high.

The study also found that there were no statistically significant differences at the level of statistical significance (0.05) or less in the answers of the study sample about (intellectual extremism) according to the variables of gender, specialization, and academic level.

In addition, there were no statistically significant differences at the level of statistical significance (0.05) or less in the answers of the study sample about (emotional regulation) according to the variables of gender, specialization, and academic level.

There is a significant inverse correlation at the level (0.05) between intellectual extremism and emotional regulation among students of Prince Sattam bin Abdul Aziz University in Al-Kharj.

The study concluded with a number of recommendations, the most important of which are more research and studies on the factors that lead to intellectual extremism, documenting them, making use of the leisure time of young people, encouraging them to volunteer work, consolidating moderate thinking, and training them on emotional regulation.
